Writer Of The Week: Gill McKinlay

Gill’s very relatable story “Overbooked” is in our new issue which comes out on Wednesday.

Tell us a little bit about “Overbooked”.

“Overbooked”, is based in reality. Books seem to breed around me! I try and reduce their numbers but always seem to end up with more than I started with!
How long have you been writing fiction?

I have loved writing fiction since junior school, which is many years…
Who are some of your favourite authors?

My favourite authors are too many  to list, but I love Jilly Cooper, Christopher Fowler, M C Beaton, Edward Rutherford, Bernard Cornwell & Terry Pratchett. I also read gardening books and enjoy stories about people travelling to new locations, or doing unusual jobs.
Do you have a well-stocked bookcase?

I have several over-stocked bookcases! I also have a Kindle and pile of magazines balanced on the end of the couch waiting to be read.
What advice would you give to new writers?

My advice to new writers would be to do market research. And then do some more.
What are your long term writing plans?

My long term goals are to keep writing for as many years as possible.
