What The “Friend” Means To Patricia Saunders

What The Friend Means

As part of our 150th celebrations, we asked our readers to let us know what the “Friend” means to them.

We were so impressed by the volume of letters we received, we thought we’d ask our writers, too!

Here, Patricia Saunders shares her joy — and surprise — at writing for our magazine.

“I have known ‘The People’s Friend’ since my childhood.

“As well as the excellent features and articles, what I like about it is that the stories are always pleasant, optimistic and positive.

“I have always enjoyed scribbling down the same type of stories for my own amusement. But it never crossed my mind that anyone else would like to read them.

“Recently, however, I had a minor brainstorm and submitted one of them to the ‘Friend’.

“When ‘The Wheels Of Fate’ was accepted, I was mostly very surprised, but of course delighted. Then to have it published in the anniversary issue . . . the icing on the cake!

“My seventy-ninth birthday is very near so it’s a bit late for a new career, but who knows!”
