Celebrate the art of storytelling in all its guises from January 27 to February 4, 2024
What is National Storytelling Week?
National Storytelling Week is an annual event and this year it runs from January 27 to February 4, 2024. It’s a way of encouraging everyone to think about storytelling, to inspire all ages and to build confidence. Many events are aimed at school children, to help with literacy skills, so perhaps it’s an experience you can share with your children or grandchildren? However, there are events up and down the country for all ages interested in storytelling.
How can I get involved in National Storytelling Week?
There are many ways to enjoy this celebration of storytelling. Look out for events in your local area – your local library should be a good source of information. Try something new by going to a book reading event, live performance or poetry recital. Visit Society For Storytelling events page and facebook page for some ideas or search using this hashtag, #NationalStorytellingWeek.
Or re-read a favourite fiction book, short story, poem or real life story and share your thoughts with like-minded friends or on social platforms and writing blogs.
Or why not join a workshop to learn more and inspire your own storytelling?
Do you have a story to tell?
“The People’s Friend” team are always looking for good stories and poetry to include in the weekly magazine, Special and Pocket Novels, so why not let 2024 be the year you put your creative work down on paper? Before you begin, read our short stories and serial in the magazine to get a feel for the tone and content suitable for our audience, and enjoy our online daily serial on the website.
Our bursary fiction writing competition is a great way to get your creative writing started – it’s aimed at amateur writers and there’s a £10,000 bursary prize!
