We’ve been sending out “The People’s Friend” Fiction Newsletter every week since January.

That means that we’ve shared an amazing 28 short stories from our Archives (some of them are split over more than one week . . . the Edwardians in particular didn’t value brevity!)

We began with “The MacPeever Wrangles: The Burglar” by A.P. Macdonald. It was a hilarious little vignette about an old married couple who hear an intruder in their house. We first published the story in 1906.

And just last week, we shared another great story, packed full of humour. It was “Who Was She? A Tale Of A Hopeless Quest” by Bernard Victor, which was first published in 1911. In it, our main character turned detective in order to secure himself a sizeable inheritance.

Take a look at the fantastic illustration our Manon put together to accompany the story:

We’ve also been lucky enough to interview a few of our favourite authors over the past year. Highlights include “Dales Detective” series creator Julia Chapman, and friend of the “Friend” Annie Murray.

(You may have noticed us asking for questions to pose them over on our Twitter page).

If any of this sounds appealing, and you haven’t signed up to receive our Fiction Newsletter yet, you can do that here.

There’s plenty more fantastic fiction in our back catalogue, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
