We have a versatile gilet for you in this week’s knitting preview.
Sometimes you just need to add an extra layer. This is where a gilet is perfect.
Worked in Stylecraft Batik DK in shade Storm (1913), it comes in six sizes ranging from 76/81 cm (30/32 ins).
Actual size is around 8/3 cm (3/1¼ ins) bigger. If you like a looser fit, you might want to knit a size up if you are the larger of the two size bandings.
Stylecraft Batik DK is a blend of acrylic and wool and has a soft twist and a painted, semi-solid, effect that looks and feels great when knitted up.

The gilet has a slipstitch border, repeated at the beginning and end of the middle band.
This band is worked over 32 rows, including the slipstitch rows and is worked on the back, too. There is some simple shaping.
We have graded this as intermediate because there are some cable stitches, but nothing else is too tricky.
Easy stocking-stitch ties and ribbed armhole borders complete the look.
This really is the perfect autumn design.
