Knitting Preview: January 4, 2020 issue

Welcome to the first knitting preview of 2020!

We start the year with this smart gilet.

It comes in six sizes ranging from 76/81 (30/32 ins) to 127/132 (50/52 ins). Actual size is approx. 18/13 cm (7/5 ins) bigger, so it will fit over layers.

We’ve worked the gilet in King Cole Gypsy Super Chunky in Silver Mist (3271), with a toning collar in King Cole Luxury Fun in Silver Fox (4207). You’ll find details on both yarns at www.kingcole.co.uk.

This is an easy design worked in stocking stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) and garter stitch (knit every row), with very little shaping. The knitting needles used are 5 mm (No. 6) and 9 mm (No. 00), so it will work up quickly.

Finally, we have finished the gilet off with two chunky buttons to add a focal point. They came from Duttons For Buttons, who have a huge selection of fastenings. Find out more about them at www.duttonsforbuttons.co.uk.

We think the combination of chunky yarn, fun fur and simple instructions is a winner.

We hope you do, too!

If you’re looking for a little more than just a knitting preview, you’ll find the full pattern in the January 4 issue of “The People’s Friend”.
