We have gone traditional this week with instructions on how to knit an Aran sweater.
Difficulty: Intermediate
How To Knit An Aran Sweater
An Aran sweater is timeless and this design featuring a Tree of Life pattern is perfect for all.
It comes in six sizes ranging from 86/91 cm (34/36 ins) to 137/142 ins (54/56 ins). Actual size is approx. 21/16 cm (8/6 ins) bigger giving a comfortable, casual fit.
The yarn we have used is King Cole Wool Aran, a pure, superwash wool that is comfortable to wear and easy to care for.
We have used the classic shade of Cream (5040) but there are plenty of other colours to choose from if you prefer something else.
To find out more about the yarn or find your local stockists, visit www.kingcole.com.
We have graded this as an intermediate design. There is little shaping which allows you to concentrate on the stitches creating the pattern but you do need to keep count throughout.
The pattern panel is worked over 11 stitches and 8 rows and is repeated throughout. It is a combination of twists and cables so you will need a cable needle, too.
The sleeves are worked from the top down to the cuffs.
It is a stunning sweater that will last for many years if care for properly. It is also a great way to showcase your knitting skills. A winner all round!
