Fiction Sneak Peek: February 4, 2023 Issue

Welcome! Let’s take a look at the stories and serials in our new issue.

Seven Short Stories

Our opening story this week is Pamela Kavanagh’s “Abiding Passions”, set in the late 1890s. Could a new-fangled contraption called a motor car mean the end of the road for stablemen? Artwork, above, by Mandy Dixon.

Moving home can bring sadness and joy, as we find out in Val Bonsall’s “Home, Sweet Homes”. With an illustration from Mandy Dixon.

Susan Sarapuk’s “Staying Afloat” is next. Can wild swimming help Sonya drown her sorrows?

Her boss might be queen of the kitchen, but could now be Lydia’s time to shine? “Leave It To Lydia” is written by Eirin Thompson.

If a motoring mystery is to be solved, Erin will have to put her detective skills to the test. “Start Your Engines”, by Alyson Hilbourne, is illustrated by Jim Dewar.

In “A Stitch In Time”, a young couple need to find a way to mend their mothers’ relationship. By Marian Myers, with artwork by Jim Dewar.

Our final story of this week is “New Tricks”, by Teresa Ashby. Can a great-grandma be taught how to use her new phone? Artwork, David Young.

Serials

A new serial starts today! “Friends And Neighbours” is written for us in five parts by Beth Watson. People come into your life for a reason – but sometimes you need to dig deep to find it! Artwork from Gerard Fay.

In the final part of Laura Tapper’s “For The Love Of Family”, Felicity’s friendship holds promise for more than only her. Artwork from Sailesh Thakrar.

A new serial begins next week.

In Stefania Hartley’s “Welcome To Quayside”, Tanya enjoyed meeting her neighbours – but Charlie doesn’t seem happy to see her…

Whilst over on Glenda Young’s “Riverside”, how is Dave going to defuse a difficult situation?
