Richard Webber sets sail to the landscapes of Lundy, in the April 29, 2023 issue of “The People’s Friend”.
The island is owned by the National Trust and managed by the Landmark Trust. The two charities have worked together since 1969 to restore and protect all that is cherished and special about this place.
You’ll need to bring your walking boots, with footpaths running all round Lundy. We’ll begin by walking along the spine of the island. However, first we’ll take a brief detour to Old Light, one of three lighthouses on Lundy.
Read more in the magazine about this unspoilt island at the spot where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic.
Marine Biologist
Diving into the icy cold waters of the Arctic Circle would be the last thing most people would choose to do.
But Sarah Neill insists that not only wasn’t it quite as bone-chilling as she feared, but what she encountered in the waters was worth every minute.
She found herself face to face with killer whales, experiencing the majesty of the giants of the deep.
Marine biologist Sarah was co-leader of the Sea Women Expedition that was looking at how eco-tourism may be better managed for humans and whales alike.
Bill Gibb finds out more in the April 29, 2023 issue about Sarah’s underwater adventures.
Celebration Fit For A King
After the sadness at the passing of both the Queen and Prince Philip, it is good to have something to look forward to.
You would have to be approaching eighty to remember the Coronation of Elizabeth II, which took place on June 2, 1953. It was the first great ceremony of state after World War II.
As Ian Lloyd looks forward to the Coronation, he recalls the pomp and ceremony of past occasions.
