We’ve a crochet preview for our craft fans this week.

It’s this wonderful hat — a real topper!

It combines practicality with fashion, and is ideal to beat the winter chills.

We provide instructions for three sizes.

Just measure the circumference of your head to check which is right for you.

The hat is worked in King Cole Indulge Chunky in Matador (2456), with the trim in Cardinal (2454).

Use the yarn doubled, to give a good, firm fabric. Perfect for keeping out the cold!

You can find out more about the Indulge Chunky and your nearest stockist by visiting www.kingcole.com.

These are easy instructions to follow.

Work the hat in continuous rounds of double crochet and the band with half-trebles. You start at the crown and work down, increasing for the brim, keeping the shaping simple.

Finally, you will need a 6 mm hook. Once you have everything, your hat will work up in no time.

This hat features in the book “Simple Crocheted Hats” by Vanessa Mooncie, published by GMC Publications.

It is available online and through your local bookshop. If you are a hat fan, you will love her designs.
