Pretty and practical is how we would describe this week’s craft.

A patchwork doorstop is easy to make and you can pick fabrics and trims to suit your décor.

You will need two fat quarters, pelmet or heavyweight interfacing, some wadding, buttons and a selection of trims or lace.

In addition, you will need a sewing machine, toning sewing threads, a needle to sew on the buttons and close seams and something heavy to weight the doorstop down. We recommend a bag of lentils or rice.

We have graded this as an easy design.

Cut your fabrics according to our cutting guide and then follow our step-by-step instructions.

The design is taken from the book “Fun With Fat Quarters” by Wendy Gardiner, published by Search Press, RRP £9.99. There is an offer of free UK p & p in the magazine.

This is a great way to use up fabrics and create a useful and decorative item, which would make a lovely gift, too.
