Cathy Gordon is a Daytime Entertainment Host for Warner Leisure, and works at the Alvaston Hall Hotel.

Ahead of our big birthday bash at the end of May, Cathy chatted to us about what you can expect when you come to Alvaston and why she loves working there so much.

I was working on the cruise ships, so I’ve come from the ships doing exactly the same as I was doing there, but I wanted to come back and be on land and I’ve got the most perfect job.

Cathy’s job is making sure the guests have as much fun as possible.

I get involved with most of the things that happen during the day, introducing new activities and trying to make sure the guests enjoy their holiday!

There are so many activities to choose from on a Warner Holiday. Quizzes, archery, dancing (Cathy’s specialty is ballroom and sequence dancing), live music, bowling, watercolour painting, movies – it’s a wonder that anyone leaves!

That’s why folk keep coming back. We had a couple in last week – they left last Friday and they’re coming back in two weeks. That will be their 54^th time!

We’ve heard stories from our own Jacki and Margaret about the food, too.

If you stayed there longer than a week, you’d have to take a new dress size with you!

Although people often come in groups or with a partner or friend, it’s also a great holiday to take on your own.

On the first day at 9.30 am, straight after breakfast, we have a solo travelling coffee group, so we invite people who are on their own – it’s on the entertainment guide – to come along and sit with me and what I do is introduce everyone and go through what they like doing and if they want to sit together.

If anyone is sitting on their own, if they want to sit next to another person who is on their own – we build that little friendship thing.
