Willie’s View: Kingussie And Loch Gynack

Kingussie

As promised by the weatherman, it was lovely and sunny when I arrived in Kingussie early this morning. And, what’s more, it was set to remain so for most of the day.

It was just a perfect day to be heading into the hills. And with the Cairngorms on the doorstep, there are plenty to choose from.

Today, though, I hadn’t set my sights on any of the high tops. Rather, I went for a nice, easy, low-level circular walk round by Loch Gynack, Craggan Wood and Newtonmore.

Ever since I climbed the hill of Creah Bheag above Kingussie some years ago and looked down over hidden Loch Gynack, I’ve been meaning to return for a closer look.

Today was that day.

Eventually linking with Newtonmore’s “Wild Cat Trail” through Craggan Wood, my return to Kingussie would take me back along part of the Sustrans Cycle Way.

I was in no rush, and happy to make lots of wee detours along the way — including revisiting Creak Bheag, and the little “kettle-hole” of Loch Imrich.

Just the same, when I set out I didn’t expect the round to take six hours!
