Editor’s Diary: The View From The Top

Editor's Diary

I really do love my job, but, like everyone, I sometimes need a break from the routine.

Getting out in the fresh air and looking at the world from a different perspective always refreshes me.

This week, I took my inspiration from the “Friend” — where else! Once again, I followed in Willie Shand’s footsteps and headed for Moncreiffe Hill near Bridge of Earn, a destination he recommended back in our November 18, 2017 issue.

This glorious 326-acre forest is managed by the Woodland Trust. From the car park, there’s a variety of walking routes to take, depending on how energetic you are feeling.

I chose one of the longer routes, and though it was quite a strenuous climb in places, I was rewarded by stunning views. I also enjoyed exploring the two Iron Age hill fort sites on the summit.

It was just what I needed after another busy week in the “Friend” office.

With meetings to plan digital content and promotional activity, and a training session in using our publishing system technology, my brain had been working hard! A walk surrounded by greenery and birdsong is always a tonic.

The celebrations for the magazine’s 150th anniversary are continuing, too. We’re currently working on another fantastic book that draws heavily on the treasures in our archive.

Keep reading to find out more in the weeks to come!
