Tracey’s Favourite “Friend” Memory

Tracey from the Fiction Team has fond memories of readers’ stories

I’m an absolute sucker for nostalgia, especially old photos of places where I’ve lived and their stories and characters. I’m a member of a couple of Facebook pages that regularly post pictures and articles from the town I grew up in and the town where I now stay.

I couldn’t help but ask the lovely people on them if they had any memories of The People’s Friend as it’s such an important part of many folk’s lives. Needless to say the outpouring of love for your magazine was immense. It’s still so popular and the wonderful comments made me fill up. We really do appreciate how much the magazine means to people as it often reminds them of beloved mums, grans, family members, and we like to think we’re still giving that feel-good factor every week.

My favourite reader story

I think my favourite comment was from a gentleman who had been a paperboy many years before. He used to dread a Wednesday because The People’s Friend came out on the same day as The Hamilton Advertiser and it was truly backbreaking stuff for him to lug his bag around!

We’re still going strong as a magazine and we’re always looking forward, but we never forget the rich history and the wonderful readers we’ve had over the years. Your stories and memories are so important to us and with our very special anniversary coming up we want to hear from you, the readers, because the magazine is yours and that’s why we’re gearing up for the next 150 years!

Keep your eyes peeled for lots of exciting events happening next year and we want you to be part of it!
