As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, we asked our contributors to tell us what the “Friend” means to them.
Writer and broadcaster Malcolm Welshman has published both features and fiction in our magazine over the years. Here, let’s us know his thoughts on our milestone year:
“Happy birthday to ‘The People’s Friend’. Boy, how the years roll on; 150 of them featuring the ‘Friend’, a true companion for readers over so many decades.
“And one that for four of those decades, I’ve had the privilege of sharing – as a contributor to D.C. Thomson, starting in the early 1980s as the ‘My Weekly’ vet, and in more recent years with vet stories and features for the ‘Friend’.
“It’s always lived up to its name as a friendly magazine with wide-ranging appeal, and I have no doubt it will continue to do so in a similar vein for donkeys’ years to come.
“I sincerely bray that it does!”
Thanks Malcolm!
Remember to keep checking our 150th pages for the latest as we continue to mark our anniversary throughout the year.
