Editor’s Diary: The Things You See!

Window shop display of straw elephant and other curiosities

I’ve often written in this Diary about some of the things I see while out on my daily walk.

But a straw elephant is a new one for me!

My usual lunchtime walking route takes me by the River Tay and back home along the main street through my little town.

On the way I pass a wonderful little shop crammed full of treasure. It sells all sorts – antiques, curios, vintage clothing, second-hand toys and pictures and so much more. It’s the kind of place you can spend hours browsing around.

It also features truly creative window displays. And the latest one caught my eye recently.

Isn’t it wonderful? It features an elephant crafted from golden straw as its centrepiece. It’s a work of art in itself!

Balanced in its trunk is a yellow ball, and it’s flanked by pots of yellow miniature daffodils.

Now an elephant isn’t normally associated with spring in Scotland, but it perfectly symbolises the new season for me.

It makes me smile every time I see it. Not least because there is a tiny red London bus in there, too!

And look carefully – can you see the mug beside the elephant’s back leg? I may just have to pop in and buy that cute koala with spring flowers for my morning tea.

But not now – I’d hate to spoil that eclectic but glorious display!
