Editor’s Diary: Signs Of Spring

editors diary

What a spring we are having! Looking back through my Editor’s Diary, I cannot remember ever enjoying such a sustained period of fabulous weather at this time of year.

In fact, since lockdown began, there hasn’t been a single day of weather bad enough to keep me indoors. That is quite a feat on the east coast of Scotland!

Some people might find it frustrating to have sunny days when we are confined to home. But I prefer to see it as an opportunity to enjoy the unfurling of spring right on my doorstep.

My daily walk is a treat for the senses. The River Tay is flat calm and the reflections are superb.

Have you noticed how many butterflies there are this year?

On a walk last weekend I was mobbed by gorgeous orange tips that mistook my purple jacket for the wild violets they love.

Yellow is the colour of spring, and there are primroses everywhere.

There are ducklings on a nearby duckpond, too.

This little family gave me an anxious ten minutes one lunchtime as they attempted with varying degrees of success to follow Mum up a steep bank. I was almost late home for a conference call as I couldn’t leave till I knew they were all safe!

Without too much rain or strong winds, the blossom is looking lovely for once. Usually it’s all a bit bedraggled!

I’m enjoying my daily walks so much that I’m determined to keep them going once lockdown ends.

Though I will have to swap my majestic views of the Fife countryside for the Dundee cityscape!
