Editor’s Diary: May You Live In Interesting Times . . .

editors diary

My Editor’s Diary comes to you after quite a week.

For all of us, it’s been an anxious, stressful and bewildering time. We’re concerned about friends and family, are having to cancel plans at short notice and find new ways of doing things. And, of course, some people are dreadfully unwell.

Our thoughts are with all the families affected. And with our tremendous NHS workers, care providers and everyone else working to keep us all safe.

Here at the “Friend”, it’s been a whirlwind of planning and meetings. The situation is so fast-changing it’s hard to keep up.

The good news is that we’re organised. Our plans to move to home working are in place. And as I’ve said in a previous post, the “Friend” will continue to be published weekly.

They say that times of adversity bring out the best and worst in people. Well, this week, I have been so proud of the whole “Friend” team.

Every single one of them has behaved with the utmost professionalism. They’ve put aside their own fears and concerns and have made a superhuman effort to keep the magazine running smoothly.

There has been no panic. Instead, everyone has stayed calm, pulled together and supported each other.

Production Ed Judey’s daughter even baked some fabulous Mini-Eggs traybake for us. It went down a treat with a cup of tea!

And new start Kirsty, in only her second week in the job, is taking everything in her stride. What a time to start a new role!

I’ve always known I have the best team in the magazine industry, and this week has proved it.
