Editor’s Diary: Festive Fun At The “Friend”

Editors Diary

This Editor’s Diary begins on a sad note . . . Christmas is over for another year!

We spend so long preparing for it. At the “Friend”, we start work on our Christmas Special in August!

Then we have our festive bumper issues of the weekly — there was two of them this year. And, of course, our own personal Christmas preparations to see to.

The demands of a weekly production schedule mean that the “Friend” office closes for only two days, on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

But we still find the time to celebrate together.

Christmas Eve saw us all heading to our favourite Italian restaurant for a delicious three-course lunch, which got things off to a very cheery start.

Then we all went our separate ways to spend our short break with our families.

The office reopened on the Friday, but I had decided to take the day off. It was the first time I have ever had any time off between Christmas and New Year in 29 years!

The weather was wet and windy, so Mr Editor and I decided to have a spot of lunch in Perth.

Wouldn’t you know it — quite by chance, I bumped into a colleague from our Enterprise department! Even more coincidentally, she was sitting at the table right next to mine.

From there it was a short walk to the cinema, where we lost ourselves in the final Star Wars movie, “The Rise Of Skywalker”.

It was fabulous; full of action and excitement.

The perfect escapism on a grey afternoon.
