Christmas: The Time To Catch Up With Old Friends

christmas

It looks like this Christmas will be a busy one.

Mrs Digital Ed and I are off to spend time with her parents on Christmas Day, then mine on Boxing Day.

But before that (and after it!), we’re spending the time catching up with old friends.

It’s a bonus of living in your hometown, I suppose: everyone who has moved away tends to come back for the festive season!

But finding the time for a quick pint, or just a cup of tea, can be difficult even with those who live close by.

Everyone has such busy lives these days — plus there’s a good few new babies on the scene, which tend to rather monopolise time and energy . . .

Though it may be tough to pin plans or people down, it’s 100% worth the effort.

I think seeing someone face to face helps you remember that connection you share. You can fall into old rhythms, relax, breathe. Pick up on things you might not notice when it’s sent to you in a text message, or left on your Facebook page.

You’re looking them in the eye, hearing their voice. Engaging.

Guilt-tripping them into going to the bar.

I’ve always put a premium on sitting down with people for this reason — even for routine work meetings here at the “Friend”.

It’s not always possible, of course. But that means you should definitely take advantage of it when it is!
