Allan Stewart’s Big Big Variety Show

Every year, Allan Stewart raises the bar a little higher with his Big Variety Show, and this year it’s to the roof!

Allan started his career in the 1960’s as a comic and impressionist, before going on to have his own show with STV, “The Alan Stewart Tapes”. He’s a much loved Scottish celebrity so we’re delighted to be invited to his yearly Variety Show.

We last caught up with Allan Stewart in December, when Wendy Glass, interviewed the cast of Cinderella, at Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre.  Oh no we didn’t, we hear you say, Oh yes we did! Wendy chatted to stars Allan Stewart, Andy Gray and Grant Stott, as they made up their regular trio for the capital’s yearly panto.

Allan played the part of the Panto Dame, and confessed that the secret to a good panto dame was to play her as a woman. “In fact, I think a lot of the younger members of the audience think the Fairy Godmother is a woman. They sometimes spot me coming out of the stage door and wonder who I am!”

In March, Allan’s Big Big Variety show is headlined by seventies soul sensations The Three Degrees.

The Three Degrees – Helen Scott, Valerie Holiday and Freddie Pool – are world-renowned  for their soulful voices, beautiful gowns, fabulous stage shows and of course their hit songs including “When will I see you again”, “Dirty Ol’ Man”, “Take Good Care Of Yourself”.

One of the entertainment industry’s most talented performers, Fred MacAulay, brings his unique style of observational wit to the line-up. Having presented MacAulay and Co. on BBC Radio Scotland for almost 18 years and with a string of tv appearances, Fred’s on air witticisms and on screen reputation are the product of years of experience on the live circuit, including a stint as the first ever-Scottish compere at the Comedy Store in London.

Variety entertainer Phil Butler makes his King’s Theatre debut with his versatile mix of comedy and magic. A popular favourite on the touring circuit, Phil has had the great honour of entertaining the British forces at home and abroad and was the first comedian to perform on the front line in Afghanistan, receiving the Operational Service Medal for his time there. He has written with many comedians, most notably, the winner of ‘America’s Got Talent’, ventriloquist Paul Zerdin.

Keeping Good Friends close!

Grant Stott, star villain of the King’s panto, radio and TV presenter and budding ‘ac-tor’ will be joining the gang to charm the crowd with more tales from behind the mic, on the stage and in front of the camera. And with Grant in the house, there’s every likelihood folk legends The MacRobert Brothers will make a welcome return.

And the stellar line-up is completed with the star compere and host Allan Stewart performing some show-stopping show-tunes with the King’s All-Star Orchestra.

Promising a night of big names, big laughs, big songs and big fun, Allan’s Stewart’s Variety has got it all sewn up at the King’s.
