Lionel, eighty-three, lives near Abergavenny in Wales and teaches music. He became a volunteer after reading an article about the Silver Line. People are matched to volunteer Silver Line Friends by mutual interests. And the two people Lionel speaks to each week share his love of music. Lionel said, “One Silver Liner used to play guitar in a rock band, but since losing his wife has found it difficult to play at all. I told him that we would play a song to each other on our next call. “The calls with my Silver Liners include all kinds of discussion and topics. I knew a little about them before our calls but I feel if I can be of value to them, then that’s good. It’s an act of love – giving something back – and it is very fulfilling.”
