Helpful Hydration On World Water Day 2020

world water day

March 21 is World Water Day, a day designated for highlighting the importance of the sustainable management of global freshwater resources.

Health experts agree that drinking plenty of water is enormously beneficial for our health.

But just how beneficial is it? Take a look at these great reasons to stay properly hydrated, via the BBC.

Memory and mood

Not drinking enough water can impair your memory, and make it a little harder to think straight.

Plus, research suggests that dehydration can put us in a bad mood.

Sugar cravings

Because of the way our brains work, we can often mistake thirst for a “sugar craving”.

If you’re looking to cut down on the number of sweet treats in your diet, try drinking a glass of water rather than eating that doughnut next time.

It might be just what you were looking for!

Headaches and migraines

If you haven’t been drinking a lot throughout the day, you may find yourself with a particularly nasty headache.

Act first to prevent this from happening: pour yourself a glass of water!

Migraines can be debilitating, and it’s not entirely clear that more water will have a tangible benefit when combating them.

But it’s certainly worth a try!

Combating a hangover

And speaking of headaches: drinking plenty of water could help fight off some of the negative effects of a night on the town.

Alcohol is a diuretic, which means that it causes the body to lose a lot of water.

Topping up the levels may help your feel better!

How much should we drink per day?

The NHS recommends drinking 6-8 glasses or cups of fluid per day.

This isn’t just water. It also includes lower fat milks, and low sugar or sugar-free drinks, tea and coffee.

This year, the theme for World Water Day is “Water And Climate Change”. For more information, or to find out how you do your bit, click here.
