Editor’s Diary: A Lovely Lunchtime Walk

Blue skies over the River Tay with a patch of long grass in the corner

As regular readers of this Editor’s Diary know, I try to get out every day for a lunchtime walk.

It’s a habit I started during the first lockdown. Back then, it was my daily exercise while working from home.

I quickly realised that I needed a new routine to replace the one I’d lost. And walking seemed a great way to boost my physical and mental health and wellbeing during difficult times.

Well, almost three years on, I’m still doing it! My fitness has improved beyond recognition. And on days when I don’t manage my walk, I really miss it.

Today’s walk was a particular delight. My circular route takes 45 minutes on average and follows a path along the south shores of the River Tay.

There’s always something to see. And frequently I encounter all four seasons in the space of under an hour!

Not this time, though.

It might only be mid February, but today the weather was glorious.

Bright blue skies, hardly a breeze to be felt, and birdsong filling the air. It was so warm that I took my gloves off! (Which, believe me, is unheard of at this time of year.)

On days like this, spring feels just around the corner.

And look at my picture! That’s the scene exactly as I saw it – no filters or special effects were used.

Getting out into nature has been proven to be good for our health. And I certainly felt refreshed for the afternoon after drinking in such a beautiful view.
