Hair Is The News

Preparing each issue of the “Friend” for publication is a team effort.  I always enjoy finding out about the articles my Features Team colleagues are putting together. This week, I was fascinated to see a news item Yvonne has picked to appear in her Health pages in a couple of weeks’ time. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but it did untangle the mystery of why some of us find it more difficult than others to run a comb through our hair!

I wonder if the same thing applies to pets? I’ve had several dogs and cats, and always loved grooming their coats. Some, though, have been easier than others . . .

Good Grooming

Usually, the beagle and the cats only needed a quick session with a rubber brush to keep them looking spruce. The Newfoundland was a whole different story! We had a selection of special rakes, brushes and combs for her lovely, thick coat. Getting any of those through her hair after a long walk could be quite a challenge. Luckily, she enjoyed all the attention. She was always very patient while I made my way through the twigs and tangles.

In our Pets page this week, Lorna Cowan has some great tips for grooming your four-legged friends. We hope you’ll find them useful, whether you share your home with a sleek, dainty moggy or a huge, hairy hound. Remember, we love to see your pictures of your pets – bad hair day or not! – so do keep sending them to us at the “Between Friends” address, won’t you?
