Q. I have a beautiful dwarf phlox. Can I take cuttings from it?

Rock garden phlox, hybrids of phlox subulata, can be propagated from cuttings taken from young growths about six inches long in early summer, and dibbled into shallow pans using a sandy compost, then placed in a cool shady place outdoors.

They should be well rooted by autumn. Sometimes they will layer themselves into the soil so you can cut pieces off with roots.
