Spooky Books To Read For Autumn
Autumn is a wonderful season. Yes, the colours are sublime, but it also makes us think of cosy blankets and socks, hot chocolate and of course . . . books!
What’s better than getting comfy and warm and sitting with a book in your hand. The nights are dark and that means it’s a great time to read something a little spooky and mysterious!
Here are some recommendations for autumn reads.
“The Unravelling” by Polly Crosby
Tartelin Brown is very much alone in the world, so is tempted by a job advert asking for a companion for a lady who also lives alone on a small island. The lady, Marriane Stourbridge is strange and mysterious and wants Tartelin to collect butterflies for her research. “The Story Keeper” by Anna Mazzola
It’s 1857 and and Audrey Hart is on the Isle Of Skye to collate the fairy and folk tales of the island that have been passed down through the years. She is met with suspicion and this is only made worse when she discovers a body washed up on the beach. She learns it’s not the first one. The islanders believe a restless spirit is taking revenge, but that can’t be true, can it?
“People Of Abandoned Character” by Clare Whitfield
What if you thought your husband was Jack The Ripper? Ooh, lock your doors and switch off your phone, because you won’t be able to put this one down! We’re in London in 1888 and Susannah finds herself in a whirlwind marriage to a wealthy surgeon. After a while his behaviour becomes more and more strange and Susannah starts reading all the accounts of the mysterious and dangerous Jack who is terrorising Whitehall. Is there a connection to her husband? This is deliciously dark.
