Writing Hour Roundup: November 30 2021

writing hour

Another week has flown past and we’re back with another roundup from the “Friend” Writing Hour over on Twitter.

Sum up your last week in three words.

Sally Suffolk summed it up for quite a few of us: Busy, chilly, sleepy.

Louise McIvor’s was great: Story published yay. Congratulations, Louise!

Poor David Balmer, though: got a cold. Get well soon, David.

Have you been writing this week?

Alison Wassell has been busy as she’s completed a 3000 word story. Jane Burns hasn’t stopped! She’s been working on a screenplay and editing a biography.

What other creative things do you enjoy doing?

What a talented bunch you are! Nicola Martin enjoys graphic design, Marian Myers enjoys acting with her local am-dram group, Jenny Worstall sings with a choir and has just joined an adult ballet group.

How do you switch off from the outside world when you’re reading or writing?

Sally Suffolk has a top tip of reading late at night when everyone else is asleep!

We also love Nicola Martin’s idea. “I write in the mornings, and I switch off the internet router at the wall before I go to bed. It means I don’t receive any messages and can’t check email/social.”

Do you think people take romantic fiction seriously enough?

John Darley said, “I think there’s an element of snobbishness about romantic fiction yet it’s really the most challenging of all genres of fiction and I really am proud to be a writer of romantic novels.”

Liz Filleul said, “I think most people don’t realise what a huge-selling genre it is. I like including romantic elements in my stories, and I also enjoy writing (and reading) romantic suspense.”

Have you ever read an entire book in one sitting?

Well the answer to this was unanimous . . . we’d all love to, but we don’t have the time!
