St Ives, Cornwall

As I was going to St Ives . . . I saw plenty of things to do, fascinating culture and heritage, and stunning scenery.

The town is known particularly for its arts scene, and the surfing visitors can enjoy from its beautiful beaches.

Plus, who wouldn’t want to take a boat trip to see the seal colony on Seal Island?

Torquay, Devon

Another spectacular seaside town (you’ll notice a pattern with these destinations!) Torquay’s coastline is nicknamed “The English Riviera”.

In addition to art galleries and gardens, the town has a literary connection: iconic crime writer Agatha Christie was born here and lived locally most of her life.

Take the Agatha Christie Literary Trail to learn all about her life. You won’t be disappointed!

The Lake District, Cumbria

Speaking of areas with strong literary connections, the Lake District has been home to quite a few renowned figures, including Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter and poet William Wordsworth, whose guide to the area was said to have sparked the very first example of mass tourism.

The scenery is breathtaking, and popular with hikers and ramblers. Market towns like Kendal and Keswick offer a more relaxing way to while away the hours, too!

Weymouth, Dorset

Found on the fossil-rich Jurassic Coast, Weymouth is famous for its beaches and sea views.

The Sea Life Adventure Park is bound to be a hit with children and adults alike.

The above picture is of the White Horse, carved into the hillside in nearby Osmington in 1808. The walk is worth the visual spectacle!

Blackpool, Lancashire

There’s no prizes for guessing what Blackpool is famous for!

The seaside resort’s Pleasure Beach has been attracting visitors for more than a century. See the famous Illuminations from September 4. And don’t forget to pick up a stick of rock while you’re there!
