This week we welcome author and poet, Angie Keeler, whose story “A Turning Point” is in the current issue.
Tell us about your story, “A Turning Point”. Where did the inspiration come from?
The inspiration for “A Turning Point”, actually came about after a delivery driver dropped of a third set of parcels for other people. Being drawn away from my writing actually led to me baking a cake instead. It was during this task that my main character and a rough outline of a plot came to me.
Are you tech savvy yourself?
I think I was far more tech savvy when I was younger. Now that there is so much new technology, I tend to just use the ones that I know will make my life simpler and avoid the rest. (I still prefer pen and paper, though).
How long have you been writing fiction?
I have been writing fiction for over three decades, on and off. I think writing is, and always will be, part of who I am as a person.
Who are some of your favourite authors?
I enjoy reading lots of different genres and so my list of favourite authors is quite extensive. These include Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, Sue Moorcroft, Carole Matthews and Jenny Colgan.
What made you submit to the “Friend”?
I have been reading the “Friend” magazines and submitting poetry for years. Although I have submitted several short stories during this time, this is the first that I am thrilled was accepted. It just proves that perseverance is key when it comes to writing.
What are your future writing plans?
I don’t really plan for the future when it comes to writing, I am just going to live in the moment, continue to enjoy the writing process and hopefully enjoy more publishing success.
