In Angela’s Editor’s blog on Friday past, she shared the news that she is leaving the “Friend”, after fifteen years at the helm.
Angela’s Fifteen Years As Editor
Among many highlights during that time, Angela oversaw our 150th birthday celebrations, with parties taking place both in London and in Dundee, home of the “Friend”.
She was also delighted to receive the Guinness Book Of Records certificate, officially recognising the “Friend” as the longest-running women’s magazine in the world!
In Angela’s final ‘Dear Readers’ letter, she gave her heartfelt thanks to readers for their support, enthusiasm and friendship and let them know that they, and the “Friend” are in safe hands.
Welcoming Our Eleventh Editor
Our new editor, Stuart, will become only the 11th Editor in the magazine’s 154-year history, which stretches back to 1869.
You’ll ‘meet’ Stuart in the magazine from issue 7986 (on sale July 12) onwards.
“I am so proud to be the editor of The People’s Friend,” Stuart says. “It isn’t just a magazine, it’s a way of life for many of our readers and I am very much looking forward to bringing you all the same mix of fantastic fiction and wonderful features that you enjoy in every issue.”
Looking To The Future
So, from the Fiction Team, we’re sending Angela all our best wishes for the future – but it isn’t really goodbye.
A date is in the diary later this month for afternoon tea, which will undoubtedly involve cake!
And to Stuart – a warm welcome. His first Friday Editor’s blog will be here on our website tomorrow.
154 Years of Friendship
For our readers and writers, the magazine will remain the same as it has been for the past 154 years – a reliable and trusted “friend”, with the same values of decency and friendship.
And fiction, along with the readers and writers we hold so dear, will remain at its heart.
