“The People’s Friend” Writing Hour is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. on Twitter. It’s a time when we can get together with writers for a chat and it’s always heaps of fun!
Every week we summarise everything that went on right here for those who missed out.
What’s your favourite fictional romance? It can be from a book, film or TV series.
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy from “Pride And Prejudice” received the most votes, of course.
The other 14 votes went to a wide range of characters. Jamie and Claire from Outlander, Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth from “Persuasion” and Harry and Sally (of “When Harry Met Sally” fame), to name a few.
There are plenty more romances to be discovered within the pages of “The People’s Friend”, too.
If you could rewrite the ending of a romantic book or film, what would choose and what would you change?
A3. There are a lot of old pulp romance books that I’ve read in the past, where the male romantic lead has been so obnoxious the heroine would have been better off making a new life on her own 😀 #PFWritingHour

The more sceptical part of me would go with the original ending of Pretty Woman, where apparently Vivien and Edward broke up but when they showed it to preview audiences, they hated it, so they changed it…

What’s your favourite quote about love? Is it from a book, poem or film?
There are lots of lovely quotes in this thread.
If you were asked to write a romantic story based in an unusual setting, where would you choose?
Love can be found anywhere, even in the most unusual of places or circumstances. We’d love to read the unusual love stories that were pitched in the thread!
In the submarine that’s one of the attractions at our local dockyard heritage centre. I don’t know where it could go from there, the submarine’s in dry dock but it would bring together two former sweethearts, one who’s the guide and the other who’s visiting with her grandchildren

How about the local council recycling tip? It could be called Wasted Love or Second time around or The Big Crush perhaps.
