Since its launch in 1869, “The People’s Friend” has had fiction at its heart. That’s still true today, as we’re proving with our short story writing workshop.
Short Story Writing Workshops
The magazine has been proud to champion authors, both aspiring and established. Like our readers, they’re a cherished and integral part of the Friend ‘family’.
In pre-covid times, our short story writing workshops were a popular way to learn everything you need to know about submitting a successful short story to the “Friend”.
With previous fiction editor, Shirley, at the helm, the workshops helped authors learn more about the magazine, and tailor their short story writing skills to our requirements.
The in-person workshops also included contributions from a well-known “Friend” author, who came along to give their perspective and advice.
Our Workshop Is Moving Online
Covid has meant that in-person workshops have not been possible for two years.
We’re now delighted to announce that we are offering an online short story writing workshop – and you can register now.
Our Featured Guest Author
We’re delighted that popular “Friend” author, Alison Carter, will be joining us on the day, to offer hints and ideas on writing from an author’s perspective.
All in all, we hope the day will be instructive and interesting, and will provide lots of helpful suggestions for authors hoping to successfully submit a short story to the “People’s Friend”.
There’ll be time for questions and answers, and no previous writing experience is necessary,
And because it’s all online with no travel, distance is no object.
Registration Is Now Open
If you’d like to register, or for more information, please just click here.
Places are limited and reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Our online workshop will work along the same principles as the in-person workshops did, so there’ll be lots of advice and tips from Fiction Editor, Lucy.
All welcome – we look forward to seeing you!
