“Reading Between The Lines” Season Two: Coming Soon!

If you’ve listened to the final episode of “Reading Between The Lines” season one, you’ll have heard Digital Ed Iain mention plans for season two.

We’re pretty excited about it, so we thought we’d take some time now to fill you in.

Season two, episode one

.We’ve already found a great story to kick off our next season: “How Love Redeems”, by “Friend” legend Annie S Swan.

The story was first published in March 1936, when Annie really was at the peak of her powers.

It’s the first time we’ll have covered a story by someone so dear to the “Friend”, and we want to get it right. That’s why we’ve invited expert Charlotte Lauder to take part. Our very first guest on the show!

Charlotte is completing her PhD on Scottish magazines, and knows a lot about not just the history of our magazine, but also about Annie, too.

Charlotte took part in our Annie-themed roundtable discussion earlier this year, to mark the inclusion of “The Inheritance” in our Classics Collection. She also gave a fascinating talk on “The People’s Friend” And Women at our live event in Glasgow’s Mitchell Library in 2019.

We can’t wait for her to join us on “Reading Between The Lines”!

All the regulars

The first episode will also feature  Editor Angela, and Barry from the DC Thomson Archives. There will be plenty of time throughout the season for the rest of the regulars, too.

We’re also planning to record a couple of special episodes, looking in greater detail at the lives of specific (and prolific) authors featured in the “Friend” over the years.

Our sponsor

We were delighted that friendship society the Oddfellows agreed to continue to sponsor “Reading Between The Lines”.
