Gillian Thornton: “Made To Feel Part Of The Team”

Gillian Thornton

As part of our ongoing anniversary series, travel writer and frequent “Friend” contributor Gillian Thornton shares her views on writing for us.

“It’s a strange coincidence that I recently submitted my 150th article to the “Friend” in its 150th birthday year

“I’ve enjoyed working on a wide range of subjects, from personality interviews to heritage features, travel destinations to charity projects.

“Freelance writers often lead a rather lonely existence. We create features for readers we rarely meet from the solitude of our own homes. But in the six years I’ve been part of the ‘Friend’ family, I’ve really been made to feel like one of the team by the friendly editorial staff – an atmosphere that also leaps out of every page.

“So Happy Birthday to the ‘Friend’. Here’s to many, many more, and hopefully to many more articles from me, too!”
