Writing For The “Friend” Workshop – May 25, 2019

Ever wanted to write for the “Friend”?

Now’s your chance to find out how! We are bringing another of our popular writing workshops to the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh on Saturday 25 May.

Fiction Editor Shirley Blair will lead the day, which will give aspiring contributors the chance to learn from the experts, and develop their writing skills with hands-on exercises and practical advice.

Topics covered will include:

  • Finding inspiration and developing ideas
  • Creating strong characters
  • Structuring your story

So if you’ve always wanted to write for us, but didn’t know where to start, this is the workshop for you!

The full running order for the day will be as follows:

10:00 a.m. - Tea/coffee and introductions

10:30 a.m. - Talk: Shirley Blair on writing for the “Friend”

11:30 a.m. - Tea/coffee break

11:45 a.m. - Talk: guest author Kate Blackadder on where to find inspiration and how to develop ideas

12:30 p.m. - Exercise: Themes

13:00 p.m. - Lunch

14:00 p.m. - Exercise: Creating strong characters

14:30 p.m. - Talk: guest author on structuring your story

15:15 p.m. - Tea/coffee break

15:30 p.m. - Talk: nuts and bolts and practical tips

16:15 p.m. - Questions

16:30 p.m. - Finish
