These jam jar craft ideas are perfect as gifts for Christmas or all year round!
The jam jar is no longer just for jams and chutneys, and these gifts ideas prove just that. Take one jam jar and create a variety of different gifts like mini planters, ready-made hot chocolate gift sets, or simple tealight holders – the possibilities are endless.
Create a cacti jar
Cacti are meant to be a good luck symbol for a new home, but they also look great around any house… especially in a Duerr’s jar!
You’ll need:
- Duerr’s jar(s) or any small glass jar
- Potted mini cactus
- Loose gravel, chippings or decorative stones (you’ll find these in garden centres)
- A spoon
Here’s how to create your own tropical display:
- Empty out and clean your jar so it’s ready to house your prickly plant.
- Carefully remove your cactus from the plastic pot it arrived in, but keep the soil around the bottom.
- Pour half an inch height of gravel into the bottom of the jar to make a base for the cactus
- Drop the cactus into the pot and wedge it into the gravel (watch your fingers!) until it can stand upright.
- Then simply spoon more gravel into the jar to steady the cactus and cover the soil.
Tealight holders
The texture of these jars creates a cosy, warming light once tealights are placed in them!
You’ll need:
- Duerr’s jar(s) or any small glass jars
- Tealights
- Twine
- Thin bendy wire
How to make your tealight holder:
- Clean out your empty jar.
- Twist two pieces of thin wire together to create a sturdy handle for your jar.
- Place the wire in an arch shape over the jar, attach to the jar by wrapping twine around the top of the jar several times, then fasten by either tying the two ends into a bow or by using glue to stick them down.
- Place your tealight into the jar, then light using a long matchstick.
